John’s extensive board experience in the last 15 years complements a distinguished three-decade career in finance.

He held a variety of senior executive positions at Standard Chartered Bank and Citigroup, working across Australia, Asia and the United Kingdom. John was Group Head of Finance and Group Head of Non-Financial Risk at Standard Chartered, where he implemented an Operational Risk Management Framework to meet Basel II requirements across 20 markets.  He also served as the bank’s primary contact with its home regulator, the Financial Services Authority.

More recently, John has shared his expertise with a portfolio of non-executive directorships. These include the Bupa Group Board (global) and three of its subsidiaries in India, Asia and Australia, where he chaired the Group Audit Committee and three Risk Committees. He also chaired the Audit & Risk Committee for Aberdeen New Dawn Investment Trust plc. In his role on the board at Bank of Queensland, John led the bank’s response to APRA’s Risk Governance self-assessment.
